Unit 5 Ancient Arabia

In this unit, the students will learn about Ancient Arabia, great civilizations that extended from the south of Yemen to the North gates of the levant (El-Sham). They will develop geographical skills, learn about the origin of the Arabs through cherished childhood stories that they will put in their historical and geographical context. They will also discover some great civilizations unknown to many; The Himyarites, the Nabateans, the Ghassanids, the Lakhmids, the Sabeans and others…They will discover the splendour of great cities some of which disappeared for ever in the sand (The atlantis of the desert) and others still witnessing a time of greatness. Names like Petra, Mada’in Saleh , Al Hijr, saba’, Ma’rib, San’aa and Iram will uncover their mysteries and will no longer be some random names encountered in the Quran and the sunnah. They will learn about Muslim and Arab historians and genealogists, they will study excerpts of books written in the 8th and 9th century never before presented for a school audience. Finally, they will study how Polytheism (Shirk), Judaism and Christianity were introduced to Arabia through some fascinating personalities, heroes and villains, all the way until the coming of the last prophet and messenger Mohammed ﷺ.
