About Course

The objective of this unit is to show the students what was the world like before Islam. We will take them on a mini-journey around the great world civilizations that coexisted with Islam through its early days. This unit is not intended to explore the glory of these civilizations (This will be done separately in other units). However, this unit is to show them the extremes of each civilization, the state of subjugation, oppression and injustice  and Chaos the world lived in before the advent of Islam. This will help them comprehend what Islam has provided to humanity and ideally, it will increase their appreciation for this beautiful religion, religion of Truth.  

Course Content

Lesson 1: The Roman empire

Lesson 2: The Persian empire
In Day 2, they will jump to the Persian Empire. They print the guided notes, and will also be learning about Primary and Secondary Sources through the ppt presentation and the article and questions in Part 1, and activities in Part 2.

Lesson 3: Ancient India
In Day 3, they will turn to the Indian Empire. Print the notes, continue with the ppt presentation with this section.

Lesson 4: The North Europeans and the Rus
In Day 4, they will print the guided notes for the Northern Europeans or the “Rus”. They will learn about a great Muslim Traveller to the land of the Rus “The Viking”; Ibn Fadhlan who happen to be the only account found to date that describs these people. They will print Ibn Fadhlan’s Journey and learn about this fascinating trip. They will also print the biography of Sa’id al Andalusi, another Muslim Historian who described the People of Northern Europe.
